Seamer Zaheer Khan took wickets at the start and end of Sri Lanka's innings as the tourists made 230-8 in Goa in the third one-day international.

Russel Arnold battled away to finish on 66 not out from number seven after none of the top six had reached fifty.

Zaheer's 5-42 were his best figures in one-day internationals, and he bowled intelligently but two of his victims received debatable lbw decisions.

They included the talented left-hander Upul Tharanga, who made just one.

Sri Lanka's score looked 20 runs under par and Indian will expect to claim the victory to draw level in the four-match series.
