Worldcup NEWs-Nielsen to fill Buchanan's post

John Buchanan will be succeeded as Australia's coach by former assistant Tim Nielsen following the World Cup.

Nielsen, 38, a former first-class wicketkeeper-batsman, is currently head coach at Cricket Australia's Centre of Excellence in Brisbane.

Buchanan replaced Geoff Marsh as national coach in 1999 and has overseen one of the most successful eras in Australian cricket history.

He announced in August that he was quitting after the World Cup.

Nielsen played in 101 matches for South Australia and retired in 1999.

He has worked with many of Australia's rising talents and had been considered a natural successor to Buchanan.

Sri Lanka coach Tom Moody and West Indies coach Bennett King had both been linked with the Australia job.
