Kiwis worried over Mills injury

New Zealand seam bowler Kyle Mills could be doubtful for the World Cup because of a persistent knee problem.

The injury has bothered him for a year and he has only managed one appearance in the current tri-series in Australia.

"His knee is sore. He's going to try some painkillers to see if that affects it, but it aches in the night," said coach John Bracewell.

"If the painkillers don't work, he'll probably go home, have an operation and miss the World Cup."

Mills has taken 89 wickets in 65 one-day internationals, including 10 during last year's ICC Champions Trophy in India where New Zealand reached the semi-finals.

But the injury is preventing him sleeping and Bracewell is concerned about the effects of trying to continue playing through the pain.

"He's just not getting any rest and recovery and that's going to eat away at him in a tournament situation.

"The pain will not affect the injury, so if we can get rid of the pain we can bowl him, but it's a risk," he admitted.

All teams have to name their final 15-man squads for the World Cup by 15 February.
