World Cup fear for Aussie Symonds

Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds could miss the World Cup after his ruptured biceps tendon injury was declared worse than first thought.

Symonds had surgery on Sunday to repair the damage and during the operation it was discovered the tendon had fully torn off the bone.

Australia team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said: "It's going to be tough for the World Cup.

"They tend to take a little bit of time to recover."

Symonds was injured during the match against England on Friday, which Australia lost by 92 runs.

The 31-year-old was forced to retire hurt after making 39.

Kountouris added: "We just want to see how it goes over the next couple of weeks.

"There's no fixed time with any sort of surgery you do ... so we are just going to look at it week by week.

"We're still aiming for him to be at the World Cup but we're still just looking at where he is going to be in the next one to two weeks."

Symonds has played 161 one-day internationals and starred in Australia's 2003 World Cup win in South Africa.
