Aussie concerns over injured Lee

Australia pace bowler Brett Lee is a concern ahead of the World Cup after suffering an ankle injury in training.

The 30-year-old was taking part in a fielding drill at Wellington's Basin Reserve when he caught his foot in the ground after sliding for a ball.

Scans on his left ankle cleared him of any fracture or long-term damage with further updates due on Saturday.

He has been ruled out of the first match of the one-day Chappell-Hadlee series against New Zealand on Friday.

Mitchell Johnson is likely to be called into the side, with Shaun Tait, Stuart Clark or Ben Hilfenhaus set to join the squad as cover.

Batsman Michael Clarke is doubtful after arriving in New Zealand on Wednesday with a hip problem.

Australia are already without some big names for the series as they warm up for the World Cup, with their first match against Scotland on 14 March in St Kitts.

Captain Ricky Ponting has been rested, wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist is spending time with his family ahead of the birth of his third child, while all-rounder Andrew Symonds is recovering from arm surgery.
