Spin key at World Cup - Dalrymple

If we got another victory against Australia it would be another boost for us

Middlesex and England all-rounder Jamie Dalrymple believes spin could be a crucial weapon in the World Cup.

Dalrymple top-scored in England's first warm-up with 76 in the facile 241-run win over Bermuda on Monday.

He had no time to bowl his off-spin as England's other bowlers skittled Bermuda for 45, but said: "It looked like there was some genuine turn.

"That makes the game a lot more interesting for a spinner," he added, noting how Bermuda's spinners did well.

Dwayne Leverock, an early candidate for cult hero of the tournament, belied his unathletic appearance - he weighs around 20 stone - to take 2-32 in his 10 overs.

Off-spinner Deloyne Borden was less expensive but took three wickets, including those of Dalrymple and Andrew Flintoff.

England had a light workout on Tuesday as they began the build-up to Friday's final warm-up match against Australia.

Dalrymple said the match against the Aussies would be a competitive affair.

"We'll be going into it with all guns blazing. It's an important game for us to get a little bit more used to the conditions and lots of us will be keen to get time out in the middle.

"If we got another victory against them it would be another boost for us and it would also ask more questions of them and put them under pressure.

"Things have moved on pretty smoothly since the one-day series in Australia and there is some real confidence around the squad.

"We learnt a lot about ourselves and how we play during that series and now it's about how we prepare and producing good performances again in the tournament."
