Langer retired from Test cricket after the winter Ashes series |
There had been speculation that he would call it day after leading English county side Somerset this summer.
But he told reporters: "In the last six months, I have started to develop some really good friendships with the Western Australia guys.
"And I have still got a burning ambition to win the Pura Cup back, so there's your announcement."
Western Australia have not won the title since 1998-99 and Langer is hoping they will be able to lure Tom Moody to coach his former state side next season following Wayne Clark's decision to give up the job.
Moody is currently Sri Lanka at the Cricket World Cup, but is believed to have been talking to officials from the Western Australia Cricket Association.
"Hopefully Tom Moody will be coach, and if that is the case that would be an added bonus," said Langer.
"I am sure if Tom wants the job he is a walk-up start - and we are all hopeful of seeing him coming through the arrivals gate at Perth airport in a month or so."
