Spin star Kumble quits one-dayers

Kumble is expected to be a regular selection for India this time
India leg-spinner Anil Kumble has confirmed his retirement from one-day internationals following the team's early exit from the World Cup.

The 36-year-old will now concentrate on Test cricket for the remainder of his playing career.

Kumble is India's leading wicket-taker in both forms of the game with 547 Test victims and 337 in one-dayers.

He made his final limited overs appearance in last week's win over Bermuda in Trinidad, taking 3-38.

India's under-performance at the World Cup, where they were eliminated after losing to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the first round group phase, will be discussed at a Board of Control meeting on 6-7 April.

Board president Sharad Pawar has adopted a moderate tone so far, saying that "winning and losing is part of the game".

He complained of media hype ahead of the tournament, saying: "Our players should not play under tension. Before their match [against Bangladesh], Rahul Dravid told me on the phone that all team members were under tremendous pressure to perform."

Coach Greg Chappell, whose future will be discussed at the meeting, has insisted India's preparation was good, but the team's execution of plans on the day was not.

"I'm happy that I've done the best job I could do, and so did the coaching staff and support staff," he commented.
