India overlook Sehwag for England

India have left out experienced batsman Virender Sehwag and spinner Harbhajan Singh for their three Tests in England.

Paceman Ranadeb Bose, 28, is the new man in the 16 for the Tests and batsman Rohit Sharma, 20, in the 15 for one-day games against Ireland and South Africa.

The squad for the seven one-day matches against England will be named later.

India begin with an ODI against Ireland on 23 June, then three more against the Proteas and one with Pakistan, before the first Test at Lord's on 19 July.
Harbhajan has been out of the Test picture since playing against the West Indies last June, while Sehwag's last Test appearance was in January against South Africa.

Both have also been overlooked for the early one-dayers but could come into the reckoning for the limited-overs series against England.

"Both need to work on their game," said chairman of selectors Dilip Vengsarkar. "I am confident they will be back soon because they are very good players."

Bose has forced his way in after taking 57 wickets in eight matches for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, while Mumbai's Sharma scored 531 runs in the same tournament.

Ramesh Powar, who played in the Tests in Bangladesh, has been named as the second spinner alongside Anil Kumble.

Gautam Gambhir is the third opening batsman in the squad and will compete for a place with Wasim Jaffer and Dinesh Karthik, who batted at the top against the Tigers.
