Durham dismantle Notts to qualify

Friends Provident Trophy, Riverside: Durham 242-9 (49 ovs) bt Nottinghamshire 238-8 (50 ovs) by 1 wkt

Durham booked a place in the last four of the FP Trophy with a one-wicket win over Notts, who need to win their final match to stand a chance of qualifying.

Durham still needed 21 off four overs when last man Neil Killeen came in.

Gareth Breese hit an unbeaten 68, firing the final two balls from Andrew Harris for four, as the home side sealed victory with an over to spare.

Stephen Fleming inspired Notts to 238-8 with a stylish 98, before he edged compatriot Scott Styris.

Fleming had taken 82 balls to reach 50, but only a further 40 to get to within two of a century, but he departed trying to run Styris to third man.

Phil Mustard got the Durham reply off to a flying start with a 42-ball half century, but he was bowled in the 28th over trying to pull Mark Ealham, who had Kyle Coetzer caught behind off the next ball.

Breese shared 50 in 11 overs with Dale Benkenstein before the skipper was stumped by Graeme Swann who pushed one through wide of off-stump.

Ottis Gibson hit a six, Paul Wiseman was run out attempting a suicidal single and Graham Onions was yorked, but Durham held on.
