Aussies 'must look out for Kiwis'

Brett Lee believes New Zealand pose the greatest threat to Australia's quest to win a third successive World Cup.

Lee, who was ruled out of this year's tournament with an ankle injury, has been impressed by the way New Zealand have chalked up their five wins.

"I think the team that have bright chances to upset Australia should they both reach the final is New Zealand.

"They play competitive cricket and in the past series too, they defeated us 3-0," said the 30-year-old paceman.

"Like New Zealand, Sri Lanka are also playing good cricket and have a good chance of reaching the final," he added.

Lee, who suffered the ankle injury in February, is devastated to be missing the competition in the West Indies but says he had no choice but to sit out the seven-week extravaganza.

"It's every cricketer's dream to shine on the biggest stage of the game but in the greater interest of my career it was necessary to take such a step. It's heartbreaking for me," he said.

"It would have been great to be bowling with Glenn McGrath in his last tournament since he has been something of a mentor for me."
