Quaid-e-Azam Gold League, Silver League contests open tomorrow

KARACHI: Sialkot will defend their title in the first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Gold League Cricket Championship, commencing from Saturday (tomorrow) at different centres of the country, simultaneously with the Silver League competition.

Defending champions Sialkot, will be up against top first-class sides of the country including Karachi Urban, Karachi Harbour, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Lahore Shalimar and Faisalabad.

On the opening day of the event, Karachi Harbour will take on Karachi Urban at the NSK here.

In other four-day matches on the inaugural day, Peshawar will meet Rawalpindi at the Pindi Stadium while Lahore Shalimar will lock horns against Faisalabad at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore.

The defending champions Sialkot will play their first match against Faisalabad from January 12 at the Jinnah Stadium. The final of the Gold League will be a five-day encounter and will be played from February 19.

The team that will end at the bottom will be relegated to the Silver League in next year’s season.

The Silver League, which starts concurrently with the Gold League, will see as many as six teams vying for the top honour and a place in the Gold League for next year.

Lahore Ravi, Hyderabad, Quetta, Multan, Islamabad and Abbottabad will be competing in the event, the five-day final of which will be played from February 7-11.

Last year’s finalists, Hyderabad, will be enjoying home advantage against Lahore Ravi at Niaz Stadium in their four-day encounter while Quetta will show their mettle against Multan at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

The third match of the first day will be played between Islamabad and Abbottabad at the Diamond Club Ground Islamabad.
