Hayden returns to one-day squad

Test opener Matthew Hayden is back in Australia's World Cup thinking after returning to the one-day squad.

Hayden, 35, was not part of Australia's successful Champions Trophy campaign.

But he is in the 13-man squad for the limited-overs series against New Zealand and England starting in Melbourne on 12 January.

Hayden and all-rounder Cameron White replace the retiring Damien Martyn and injured Queensland all-rounder Shane Watson in what looks a strong squad.

Australia's chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch said: "There is no doubt we will miss Damien. He was a great player in both forms of the game for Australia over a long period of time and was instrumental in our ICC Champions Trophy victory.
"However, this provides Ricky [captain Ricky Ponting] with an opportunity if he chooses to elevate Michael Clarke and Michael Hussey in the batting order and to bring back into the squad Matthew Hayden and Cameron White.

Australia have also named a 30-man preliminary squad for the World Cup in the West Indies in March, which will be trimmed to 15 before the 13 February deadline.

Australian squad for tri-series against England and New Zealand: Ricky Ponting (captain), Adam Gilchrist, Nathan Bracken, Stuart Clark, Michael Clarke, Matthew Hayden, Brad Hogg, Michael Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Glenn McGrath, Andrew Symonds, Cameron White.
